Wildcats Edge Oktaha After Bixby Defeat

Checotah high school teams show improvement with the Wildcats splitting a week, losing to Bixby 29 to 25 and beating Oktaha 30 to 29. Girls team fared better, losing 21 to 35 to Bixby. Upcoming home games pit boys against Boynton and girls against Bingla ss. Also notes a December basketball tournament with 24 teams across 13 schools and a packed three day schedule.

Free Cancer Clinic Visits Eufaula Next Tuesday

The State and County Health Department in cooperation with the County Medical Society and the American Cancer Society announce a free cancer clinic in Eufaula next Tuesday December 17. Registrations run 8 to 10 AM, examinations begin at 1 PM. Any resident of McIntosh County may be examined. the service is free.

Members of the ChKecotah Ministerial Alliance at their latest meeting urged all city churches to arrange annual Christmas programs on a common date, preferably Monday evening December 23, to secure broad cooperation and avoid conflicting observances.

C. E. S. Elects New Officers For Coming Year

At the annual election of officers of the Order of Eastern Star held Monday evening, Mrs. Addie McPherson was named Worthy Matron and Bill Scroggins Worthy Patron. Marcia Ribelin Associate Matron, Fred Belin Associate Patron, Pearl Mitchell Secretary, Bessie Nelms Treasurer, Anna Lee Reynolds Conductress, Ethel Rainwater Associate Conductress. Emma Duffy received a life membership card for being the oldest active member. Degrees will be conferred on eleven candidates at a special meeting and Christmas party on Tuesday, December 17 at 7:30 pm. all others urged to attend and bring a gift up to one dollar for the gift exchange.

Funeral services for Jasper Ellison Dennis age 74 will be held Friday at 2 30 PM at First Baptist Church Checotah with Rev Cole Allen and Rev J C Hendrick officiating Dennis a longtime Victor community resident born November 29 1872 Missouri is survived by three brothers two sisters three sons sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Farmers Union Local Elect New Officers

The Checotah local of the Farmers Union met at the school gymnas ium last Wednesday evening and elected officers for the coming year. Walter Williams was chosen president Forrest Kloeckler vice president and Raymond Helt secretary treasurer. The next meeting is set for Thursday December 19 with state officials expected to attend.

Christmas Tree Fire Hazards Warned by Fire Marshal

State Fire Marshal J. T. Ellis warns this season that thousands of Christmas trees in homes and schools raise fire risk. He urges extreme care by parents and teachers to guard against lighted candles and faulty wiring around trees and other decorations, recalling tragedies from tree fires.

Bill Miner Named All-State Tackle in Oklahoma

Checotah star Bill Miner son of Mr and Mrs Virgil Miner was chosen on the Daily Oklahoman All State Team as tackle. Miner starred throughout the season and will play for the South in the North South game at Taft Stadium Oklahoma City in August 1947. He also earned all conference tackle honors alongside Jim Helcomb. Other Checotah players received honorable mention or second string designations in various positions.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering Held Last Friday

The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering was held at the First Baptist Church last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Carter led the devotional, with J. C. Gates in charge of the program and several ladies assisting. The meeting closed with prayer and the offering collections. Evening events included a BWC gathering with a covered dish supper.

Immunization Drive Expands To County Schools

County Health Nurse Mrs Kathryn B Rege announced immunizations for students will be added to the school schedule. Public Health visits begin December 16 at Pierce Wing Warrior Stidham Lenina Primrose Simpson Grove Oak Grove Hitchita Elm Grove with vaccines including smallpox whooping cough diphtheria toxoid and typhoid. Parents may also obtain vaccines at the City Hall Public Health office in Checotah.
