Jackson Mississippi May 4 A summons was sent to Lincoln county Sheriff to serve on former Governor James K Vardaman who is due to appear next Friday for testimony before expert accountant Charles Smith. The witness will shed light on funds passing through the governors hands including the executive contingent and other state funds. Vardaman claims all funds were properly accounted for in his public addresses.
The Alaskan steamer Buckman delayed sailing for over an hour as an informal session of the U S circuit court was held on deck. Prosecutors and defense in the Wise murder case stood near the prisoner ironed. witnesses described the August 21 incident when Wise and a companion allegedly tried to capture the ship and Captain Wood was killed. Cargo loading paused during the hearing.

Raleigh May 4 A statement by Rev Livingston Johnson shows the North Carolina Baptist convention closed May 1 with foreign missions collections at 36800, down from 40800 last year, and the Home Mission fund about 400 under last year. The Southern convention’s Foreign Mission fund also faces a 70000 shortfall.
Columbus May 4 The Franklin County grand jury resumes session after five state legislators are indicted for bribe soliciting and an officer of the legislature for abetting the crime.
The Pittsburg graft trials reopen with Dr. Frank C. Blessing, president of the common council, as the first defendant. He faces bribery charges for allegedly taking 150 dollars to influence a bank depository ordinance vote. This marks his second trial after a prior conviction. Former Councilman John F. Klein testified, saying he delivered the bribe to Blessing at his home. Klein was brought from the penitentiary to testify.
Baltimore May 4. Dollar diplomacy is the expansion of American business interests through the state department, substituting dollars for bullets to create prosperity and pursue world peace.
