Interior Department rejects the Cunningham and Guggenheim coal land claims in Alaska amid a long dispute tied to the Pinchot Glavis investigation. Officials say the cases reflect broader coal land law debates and potential public protections against private exploitation.
Odice Moore, 22, a ticket agent for the Southern railway in Blacksburg, drowned yesterday afternoon in Buffalo Creek near town after cramping while swimming. R S Cooksey, another Southern railway agent, watched him struggle from a distance and tried to save him too late. Moore was a popular local figure and had been with the Southern for some time.
An explosion on the barge Gamble in Port Arthur Texas at 6 30 am killed its captain and destroyed three barges a tug and three oil filled warehouses. The blaze spread to oil cases threatening nearby property but by noon the fire was under control and nearby ships were unharmed.

The move follows a special committee inquiry into conduct surrounding the Bucks Store and Range boycott dispute with the American Federation of Labor.
Federal Court reconvened in Raleigh at 1 p.m. for the $1.2 million damage case Ware Kramer Tobacco Company vs American Tobacco Company. A 2:30 p.m. session would feature plaintiff F. D. Ware taking the stand after a recess. Transtein evidence was temporarily withdrawn as the deposition revealed Ware Kramer stock ties to co-defendant W. M. Z. Carter.

He recalls a Chicago request by Edward Hines for a $10,000 contribution toward a $100,000 Lorimer election fund. Funk describes meetings in Washington and Union League Club, noting he avoided discussing Lorimer and that the company denies using money to influence votes.
