Chas Smith, witness in disbarment cases against Judge Lewis Shepherd and H. M. Doughty, testified he was paid $90 to swear in the Dr. J. W. Sherman murder case that Norton was killed. He was arrested yesterday afternoon on a warrant charging perjury sworn by Judge Shepherd and held for the grand jury.
Deposition testimony from three Charlotte brokers and others from Atlanta Washington Charleston and Columbia described coupons and free goods from the American Tobacco Company that drove the Ware Kramer Company's White Rolls from the market. Names include Lewis N. Schiff Q M Norwood and Chas P Moody with several Raleigh and Raleigh area figures also examined. The court recessed at 2 pm until Monday.
The Georgia Funeral Directors Association closed its tenth annual convention in Atlanta with Macon winning the vote for next meeting site over Griffin and Athens. New officers named include C. Kytle of Carrollton as president, Sam R. Greenberg of Atlanta as vice president, and C. L. Stevens of Moultrie as secretary and treasurer. A national convention will be held in Little Rock in September with F. D. Hart of Macon as delegate and G. A. Bank of Forsyth as alternate. The group backs bills to improve corpse transportation sanitation and will seek talks with the state board of embalmers.
Atlanta June 16 The Southern Railway is adding extensive improvements on the Knoxville division from Knoxville to Chattanooga and Asheville to Morristown. Ten passing tracks are under construction with eight between Knoxville and Chattanooga and two between Asheville and Morristown. Locations include Ebenezer London? Tenn. Regan Tenn. Hutsell Tenn. Daniel Howard Carl Howard and Nettie Howard were arraigned in the inferior criminal court in Mobile Alabama on the charge of involvement in Dr. W G Walker s death and were discharged due to lack of sufficient evidence.

Atlanta June 16 The fourth biennial national convention of the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority opened for a three day meeting here yesterday with Mrs W C Coles presiding. Delegates from many leading women's colleges attended the event.

Mr. Wilbur Jones of High Point, editor of the Southern Furniture Journal, died suddenly at Mission Hospital near noon while attending the State Retail Furniture Dealers Association session. He suffered heart pain, rode the Biltmore estate ride, then collapsed and died. his remains will be sent to High Point on Saturday for interment.
Dr. Wm. M. Vines, pastor of the First Baptist church in Asheville North Carolina, accepted a call from the First Baptist church of St. Joseph Missouri. He has previously served in Brooklyn and Norfolk.
