A 70 year old man, William Morgan, allegedly tried to kill his 65 year old wife with a knife after a quarrel that ended her long, otherwise peaceful marriage. He declared he would die too as he struggled to attack, then called for mercy as bystanders intervened. He is under arrest.
The Dixie Flyer on the Chicago to Jacksonville run derailed at Inaha, nine miles below Macon, at 5 a.m. The engine and four cars overturned. a negro fireman was badly injured and other passengers shaken. Pullman cars stayed on track. The line had suffered a similar wreck at the same spot about a month earlier. Tracks blocked for hours. G S and F trains use Central of Georgia tracks to Albany.
Atlanta Ga January 5 temperatures in the southeastern states ran near freezing or below with ice on ponds in Savannah and Charleston reporting 28 degrees. New Orleans logged freezing coastal readings while Florida faced lingering chill though with cloud cover limiting frost. Plumbers reported burst pipes in Augusta and Jacksonville noted surface temperatures around 22 degrees as officials warned growers along the coast.

In Gainesville on January 5 the city court heard a love dispute between Lonnie Heath and Tom Black. Heath was cut and both men were brought to court. To end the publicity the rivals compromised out of court with Black surrendering the field to Heath.

He calls for direct primary and recall, curb on political money, and constitutional change including federal income tax and popular nomination of U S senators. He urges redistricting by engineers and criticizes past railroad mergers and commissions.
Stenographer J. H. Higgs of the Armour Packing Company is missing since Monday. His employers and friends are concerned. Nearby, Mr. W. Harry Miller, ill at Mercy General Hospital, is reported able to go home today.

Dallas, Jan 5. Six air craft were in service as the international aviation meet resumed this afternoon. New altitude speed and cross country records are expected to be pursued. The Rochester biplane used by Frisbie yesterday was repaired and slated for another flight. A five mile race between Rolana Carros and Joe Seymour was highlighted, while Hamiltons black demon racer performed well.

Fifteen people died and about forty of fifty aboard were injured when a passenger train derailed near Nathcart Cape Colony during a rainstorm. The Southern Africa bound holiday crowd from East London chartered the carriages and the train toppled down an embankment after leaving the rails.
