Filmdom Homes In Fire Path Near Malibu Beach
LOS ANGELES Sept 8 7 A widening fire front raced down dry brushy slopes of Los Flores canyon toward three million dollar motion picture residences at Malibu Beach. Despite 500 fighters efforts the blaze grew out of control destroying a cache of mountain cabins and advancing to within four miles of the screen colony. Sheriff officials said a large dynamite cache lay in the path of the blaze which has burned over 3000 acres in the Malibu mountains nine miles north of Santa Monica. Elmer D Rarity a young truck deliverer told officers yesterday that after visiting friends he lit a cigarette and tossed the match away igniting the fire. He said he tried to beat it out with a blanket and then called the fire warden.
