Virginia and surrounding states show cloudy conditions with rain likely and mild highs in the 50s to 70s. Tonight will bring 40s, clearing later in the week with 60s to 70s by Thursday, while other regions report varied showers and cooler spells with highs often in the 40s to 60s.
Mayor W J Dawson of Hurricane and Harry Miller of Hurricane receive career promotions from Carbide's accounting and financial control department in South Charleston. Dawson becomes Kanawha Valley cashiers group leader. Miller named systems analyst after 25 years with the company.
Occasional periods of rain or showers today and tonight with highs in the 60s. Tonight the 40s to 50s. Thursday partly cloudy with highs mainly 50s to 60s. West Virginia also shows rain then clearing with mid 40s to mid 60s highs.
The Senate Watergate committee cleared Carmine Bellino, its chief investigator, of charges he participated in electronic eavesdropping during the 1960 presidential campaign. A subcommittee found no credible evidence to support spying or planning eavesdropping. Senator Gurney dissented, but the full committee approved the report 6 to 1. Bellino, an ex-FBI agent, was named director of the alleged operation by George Bush.
A federal judge ordered the IRS to lift its 4.2 million back taxes lien on Westgate California Corp. Judge Leland C. Nielsen warned the move could bankrupt Westgate and cost 10 000 jobs, noting the IRS treated the matter on technical grounds. SEC suit tied to inflated profits and senior Westgate figures resigned as a result. The new board cannot raise funds or obtain a bond to release the lien.
Beckley West Virginia Centex Corporation subsidiary J. W. Bateson Co. Inc. wins a 34.5 million contract to build the Federal Mine Health and Safety Academy near Raleigh County Airport. The project marks a major federal investment in regional mining safety training.
Missouri Governor Bond says Nixon outlined a four to five point plan and a detailed personal finances review. Oregon Governor McCall reports Nixon appeared relaxed and in control as Republican governors praised his record while urging fuller public answers. Energy adviser John Love warns oil shortages rival wartime issues and supports possible gasoline rationing if voluntary measures fail.
The Nitro Sanitary Board and Rock Branch Public Service District clash over planned sewage facilities. Mayor Gibson says revisions to an agreement were unsatisfactory and a signed document is not yet returned. He pledges a decision by the next council meeting.
Exxon Names James L Stanislaus new district retail manager responsible for retail sales and distribution in West Virginia. He arrives from Houston and will work from Charleston. Incumbent acting manager Lloyd M Thacker becomes operations manager for the Eastern Region with offices in Baltimore. Stanislaus and his wife Jude have two children and will reside at 1528 Bedford Rd in Louden Heights. Stanislaus to assume duties in Charleston on December 1.
Over 200 Kanawha River residents petitioned for help with riverbank erosion endangering homes. Army Corps of Engineers officials will inspect the river slippage in South Charleston at 2 p.m. on the day, following notices to Sen. Byrd and Rep. Slack.
Kanawha Banking & Trust Co declares a regular dividend of 25 cents per share plus an extra 25 cents per share. The total dividends amount to 122,546 dollars on 245,092 shares outstanding for the fourth quarter, payable December 18 to stockholders of record December 4.
Sheriff G. Kemp Melton said the Thanksgiving meal for inmates at Kanawha County jail will feature turkey and dressing, green beans, cranberry sauce, hot buttered rolls, fruit gelatin, whipped cream, coffee and milk.
Charleston newspaper notice states The Daily Gazette Company is an independent Democratic daily paper published at 1001 Virginia Street East, Charleston, West Virginia 25301. It notes postal classification as second class matter and cites the March 3 1897 act and the paper’s establishment in 1873.
The Seventh day Adventist Church at 622 Kanawha Blvd W will join the World Service Appeal this week through Dec 31. Volunteers will solicit donations to fund welfare disaster relief education medical and mission work. Contributions support local state national and international programs. 54 percent of the islands remain in West Virginia.

She was treated and released at Charleston Memorial Hospital. Hainan Island’s road mileage reportedly expanded tenfold since 1949 per Hsinhua.
The Royal Lipizzan Stallions owned by Gary and Phillip Lashinsky of Charleston will perform in the Macy Day Parade Thursday. Gary Lashinsky is set to be interviewed by a national network between 11 and 11:30 a.m.
Richard D. Smyser of Oak Ridge Tennessee was elected president of the Associated Press Managing Editors Association at the annual convention in Walt Disney World. Robert P. Clark Louisville Courier Journal Times was named vice president. Larry Jinks Miami Herald chosen secretary and Dallas C. Higbee Charleston Gazette treasurer. Eight board members also elected.
