Rome reports a coin shortage in which 5 and 10 lire coins vanish leaving shoppers with candies or gum as change. Merchants blame tourists and speculate on rounding prices while some propose 50 or 100 lire rounds. A Rome critic notes he received three caramelle instead of 30 lire change.
