In Seoul region an Air Force Boxcar carrying 44 U.S. troops and Christmas payload from Japan crashed into a mountain near Seoul. All aboard were killed, described as the worst transport disaster since the Korean War began.

Alexander W. Laing Sr. 73, prominent Charleston figure, died at home after a long illness. He led Kana wha Valley Lumber Co, Title Mortgage and Discount Co, and Virginia Savings and Loan Co, and served as vice president of Wyatt Coal Sales Co. Born May 20, 1879 in Mercer County, Pa, he began in 1897 as a Sun Coal and Coke Co bookkeeper and remained in the coal industry, with a brief clothing business period in Hinton. He also directed Wyatt Coal Co, McAlpin Coal Co, and Kanawha Manufacturing Co.
Ole Miss stunned Maryland 4 to 3 as part of a slate of big games. Georgia Tech edged Alabama 7 4 while Michigan State and others climbed in the AP poll. Tennessee and Texas prepared for Cotton and Sugar Bowls with Sugar foe Georgia Tech.

In Zanesville on November 15 a United Mine Workers union unit and nine organizers and members of District 6 were fined a total of 7400 dollars with suspended jail terms from 10 to 20 days for contempt of court. Judge Clarence de Crossland acted on Bruns Coal Co claims that the union violated a May injunction barring mass ticketing and violence.
A dense fog on the New Jersey Turnpike near Newark caused a chain of crashes involving about 40 cars in seven collisions. Two sailors died and 26 were hurt in the worst pileup, closing the toll road for nearly five hours. Earlier, two more deaths and seven hospitalizations occurred in separate crashes in Kearny.
Washington moves toward lifting federal steel allocation limits except for military needs. A task force of steel experts recommends removing all controls on nonmilitary steel, predicting a burst of production and widespread industrial expansion in 1953.
