Mass Observation Ltd reports 57 percent of 2,006 Britons knew Richard M. Nixon as a Republican presidential aspirant while 61 percent could name Alexander Dubcek as Czechoslovak Communist leader. About 75 percent recognized singer Julie Andrews.
Six fundraising committees filed late reports with the House clerk, totaling about 1.3 million in contributions since January and 996 thousand in expenditures. Major donors include W Clement Stone and Max Fisher at 36 thousand each, with other named patrons across Illinois, Michigan, California, and Wisconsin. A Pennsylvania listing of 6 thousand and a South Carolina entry of 3 thousand caused a clerical mix-up, later corrected as two separate reports from South Carolina and Pennsylvania.
