Sixty five ships carrying 31000 men took part. Reports reaching here said several new types of equipment were being used but this was not confirmed. Included in the operations were the battleship Missouri and aircraft squadrons. Marines made a mock attack on Argentia and occupied Pikes Peak a hill overlooking the base. They will bivouose there for several days.

In Columbus Ohio November 8 1947 CIO Amalgamated workers defied Sheriff Ralph J Paul by keeping a 30 man picket outside the American Zinc Oxide Co plant. The sheriff warned the pickets were violating the Taft Hartley act and gave them an hour to leave. Union rep Raymond Dennis said they would stay until the strike is won. The company sought a court injunction and a judge postponed action as talks were arranged in a late hour meeting. The core dispute centers on non Communist affidavits under Taft Hartley.
