Coal Output in West Virginia Rises. National Pace Ahead

Coal production in southern West Virginia fields ran nearly 10 percent above the national pace by late October. The Katawha Coal Operators report dated Oct 29 shows downstate tonnage 28 percent above January-October 1954. Logan field led with 15,835,400 tons in ten months, 33.3 percent ahead of last year. River tonnage and export loadings also rose as operators attribute gains to stronger abroad demand and overall prosperity.

Food Prices Seen Stable for 1956 Says USDA

The Agriculture Department predicts 1956 food prices will stay about the same as 1955 while farm output rises. Domestic demand remains strong and overall food supplies are expected to match this year’s record totals.
