New Haven Conn Nov 5 Three times Governor Raymond Baldwin R tops unofficial returns from 40 towns to lead by more than 34000 votes and wins the U S Senate both the short term to succeed Admiral Thomas Hart and the long term starting next January opposition leaders Cross and Tone concede Baldwin's victory in congratulatory messages. He pledges to tackle grave issues at home and abroad.
The United Nations Assembly steering committee at Lake Success approved widening the permanent headquarters site debate to include New York City and San Francisco while rejecting Europe as a future possibility. The vote on inviting NYC and San Francisco passed eight to three, with Britain opposing widening the question and Russia and Ukraine voting against the U S amendment. Four abstained.

President Truman followed returns from congressional elections by radio and bulletins while aboard a special train en route to the White House from Independence Missouri. He voted at his seventh precinct in Blue Town and was joined by his mother Mrs Martha Truman as well as Margaret Truman and others who saw him off at the depot.
