Greek shock troops drive into Albania near Koriiza to seize major Italian base as infantry and artillery clash. Reports say Italian forces reinforced. fall of Koriiza anticipated amid intense fighting and mountain defense.
In Athens officials report 38 monks left a Greek monastery to volunteer for the army as front lines press into Koritza. Greek forces say they advanced into Albania while defending Jannina and Kalamas river positions against Italian pressure. RAF and Greek aircraft vie over Piraeus as bombers strike Corfu and Athens endures alarms amid shifting fronts.
A fragment notes Willie Willis remarking that he passed Mary and Sue watching a soldier and that they did not see him. He jokes that there might be no war if girls did not go goofy about uniforms.
West Virginia voters gave Democrat Son M. M. Neely the governorship with a large margin over Republican D. Boone Dawson as the party swept the ticket. Kilgore won the U S Senate seat. Strong Democratic gains were reported in mining and central regions.
Returns from 2,350 precincts show three constitutional amendments failing to gain ratification. Judicial amendment to abolish justices of the peace trails with 15,730 yes and 25,875 no. Officials limit amendment to governor, auditor and attorney general trails with 10,781 yes and 27,748 no. Budget powers amendment trails with 11,405 yes and 25,743 no.
James F. Torrance, Republican state chairman, conceded Pennsylvania to President Roosevelt at 12 50 a m noting the outcome on November 8 1932 in Harrisburg.
RAF struck German invasion bases across the English Channel in a violent night blitz while London endured its regular air raid. Parachute flares and anti aircraft fire lit the Boulogne area as Cap Gris Nez targets were bombed. Bombs shook eastern England as German raiders returned at dusk.
London reports Prime Minister Winston Churchill told the House of Commons the growing U boat threat could touch the state’s life if not halted. He forecast heavier attacks next year, promised vast preparations, and urged offensive campaigns in 1943 and 1944.
