Four Charged in Jail Break Plot Arrests After Brazen Effort
Heavily armed police halted a jail break plot to free two inmates in Charleston. Four conspirators were identified as Carl Edward Prather Elizabeth Means Francis William Brassell and Stanley Farley Lawson. Prather who had been released from a federal penitentiary near Lewisburg Pennsylvania last July was nabbed with a shotgun at the jail door. Investigators said the plot was planned over four days with surveillance and a boat trip across Gauley River to fetch weapons.

A well dressed ex convict was arrested by a state trooper on suspicion of passing more than $10 000 in bad checks. The suspect, 37 year old Eddy Willard Cox of Buckhannon, had three prior bad check terms. He admitted identity and said he planned a trip to Virginia while police held him for disposition on checks in Philippi and Richmond.
