Hoover Jr elected to head a new Aeroserv Radio Firm after an election. He succeeds Dever ago mn, formerly vice president of Dutvers Se Ldin, who becomes executive president of Asconautive Radio. The corporation plans active work within twenty days.
Three 1930 Pulitzer prizes were awarded: Rumell D. Owes of The New York Times received $1,000 for radio reporting on Rear Admiral Byrd's expedition. Oliver La Farge won $1,000 for Laughing Boy novel. Marc Connelly earned $1,000 for the play Green Pastures as a major New York theater highlight.
New York May 12 UP The American Indian and the American Negro were subjects of this year’s Pulitzer prizes in letters. Oliver LaFarge, author of Laughing Boy, will receive 1000 for his novel, while Marc Connelly earns 1000 for Green Pastures. Green Pastures adapts Roark Bradford’s Old Man Adam and His Chillun with 85 African American actors in a religion saturated drama. Other awards include History 2000 for The War of Independence by Claude H. Van Tyne and Biography 1000 for The Raven a Biography of Sam Houston by Marquis Jones. Four journalism prizes awarded by Columbia University for best correspondence go to Laland Stown of The Herald Tribune.
Morgantown May 12 A mob of about 500 West Virginia University students tried to gain admission to the Metropolitan theater. One boy was injured by a tear gas bomb cap and three were arrested. Cadets rushed the theater as regular officers inspected the crowd. The manager said the theater was at capacity for opening night after renovations. The front was damaged with vegetables eggs and sand. Police from city, county, and state were on the scene.

Washington May 12 The London naval treaty was laid before the senate foreign relations committee by Secretary Stimson head of the American delegation with a claim it represented a fair agreement and parity between British and American fleets. He challenged a strict fleet comparison and the panel agreed to a thorough week long examination with input from Navy officials.
A state hospital shortage and financial strain were presented to West Virginia citizens by the state board of central. They cited overcrowding and severe funding issues at Huntington Spencer and Weston State hospitals, urging an adequate bond issue or higher revenues. The board noted plans for additional buildings at Spencer and Huntington and a $200,000 Weston addition nearing completion.
In Baltoiore on May 12 the body of Mrs. Mary Textnr was found in a water-filled basement. Police later recovered about $100,000 in jewels, cash, and funds from hiding places around the home. Early reports say the death was by self-inflicted strangulation after a broken pipe and water flow.
The West Virginia Supreme Court issued an alternative writ of mandamus directing the presidents of ten Kanawha district boards of education to meet and elect a county superintendent of schools or show cause by May 20 why action should not be taken. The writ names ten board presidents and cites a petition by Grant P. Ball and Grant P. Ball Jr. on behalf of Malden district taxpayers. They argue Camp’s felony conviction bars him from office, despite a pending appeal and stay.
The state plans to seize mint vending machines owned by G. M. Cobbs of South Charleston and the Superior Confection Company of Columbus despite a court injunction. Special receiver W. T. Lively said he did not know Cobbs's company owned the machines until Cobbs petitioned for the injunction three weeks ago. Cobbs claimed financial interest and argued the devices were not gambling machines. The restraining order has not been challenged by local authorities.
Wheeling reports Mrs. Helen Thornton wife of Dr. John T. Thornton named defendant in a 1000000 alienation of affections suit brought by Taylor E. Beattie son-in-law. Beattie contends Mrs Thornton exerted undue influence leading Rosalie Thornton Beattie to leave her husband, with the couple having resided with her parents. The couple reportedly separated yesterday.
Washington May 12 two national officials in statements today carried forward the prohibition phase of the senate's investigation of lobbying activities. Bishop James Cannon Jr. in a Dallas telegram faced stock speculation charges and argued prohibition reports were not required. The lobby committee will probe Cannon's anti-Smith campaign funds and McBride's admitted lobbying activity as Miss Ada Burroughs from Richmond is summoned to testify. Cannon wires Caraway defending Virginia and Smith funds reporting disbursement and noting plans for upcoming quadrenniums while awaiting committee appearance.
