Reno May 30 The aviatrix Lady Mary Heath won an uncontested divorce from Sir James Heath, a 75 year old British mine owner, who did not respond to the suit. She testified to extreme cruelty and alleged penny pinching, claiming he was mentally affected about money matters. Heath estimated his income at 200000 to 300000 dollars annually and the couple married in London October 15 1917. No alimony mentioned.
County Four-H club representatives spoke at a county meeting about civics work and proposed making Kanawha Exposition grounds more inviting year round. A resolution urged creating public camp sites, an annual livestock and Four-H exhibit, ongoing pool operation, and more space for a fish exhibit at the 1930 fair.
Beckley May 3 In a gun battle during a raid on two alleged moonshiners one constable James L Neely 43 Blair Fork was killed in a Beckley hospital Raleigh county officers said tonight J M Wheatley deputy sheriff remained hospitalized but expected to recover Marion Bing a bystander suffered a superficial wound He and others were wounded near Monteval Wednesday night during the raid and Neely was part of the team investigating the shooting and injuries
