In McDowell County a home on Flat Top burned killing Fearl Rogers age two and Lowell Rogers two months. A fourth child Lando Rogers four was hospitalized in critical condition after an oil fire in the kitchen exploded. Straley Richmond fourteen resided with the family. Fire investigators say kerosene lighting caused the blast.
Julius Barnes accepts Legge challenge to fund an agency to aid marketing, saying he will start a collection from industry to match Legge’s offer. The debate at the Chamber of Commerce convention centers on repealing the act while defenders, including Hyde and others, defend the act’s purpose.
Morgantown April 40. Drinking among West Virginia University students has shown a marked decline in the past five years, according to Dr W P Shortridge dean of the college of arts and sciences in an article in a national church magazine May issue. The liquor breath is a decided exception at even our big dances with high price and risk cited by students as reasons for less drinking and drunkenness.
Washington April 30. Mother Jones will celebrate her 100th birthday by appearing in motion pictures at a Maryland farmhouse party hosted by Walter F. Burgess. Guests include Governor Ritchie and Labor leaders. a 100 cake and Marine Band music mark the open house as she reflects on decades in labor battles.
Glen Tyree, 23, of Peace Springs, is jailed in Greenbrier county after a manhunt spanning Richlands to Honolulu. He allegedly beat taxi driver Winebrenner in Richlands on August 6, 1928, and was transported from New York harbor after waiving extradition.
Cobb, linked to the Gann case at the James T. Gann residence on Main Street last December, was found guilty by an intermediate jury of feloniously wounding Gordo Woody of Charleston. Woody recovered after a few days in hospital.
Eden Harn of Kenesaw Nebraska has died at 101 in Fairmont Nebraska. She was the daughter of Mrs Murgaree Jate Grive of Fairmont and sister of the late Mrs Corella Share rar who died last year in Mountain Lake Maryland. Milas Harn, a former teacher in West Virginia, was a native of Maryland.
Debate in the Senate over Judge John J Parker of North Carolina for the Supreme Court drew two Democrats, Wagner of New York and McKellar of Tennessee, opposing Parker while two Republicans Hastings of Delaware and Hebert of Rhode Island defended the nomination. The session featured charges of political influence and a letter from Joseph Dixon urging Parker as a major political move, with further discussion of the Yellow Dog contract case and Parker’s past actions.
Washington April 20 Senator Jones of Washington proposes a summer session to force a showdown on the president's law enforcement program.
