Labor Committees Biased Beholden Says Senator Avers
Senator Mundt charges both Senate and House labor committees are a closed corporation packed with members beholden to labor leaders. He criticizes Kennedy Ervin bill as soft and says rivals like Eisenhower proposals and McClellan drafts got little attention. Udall and Kearns seek a compromise, favoring two separate Kennedy proposals on labor reform and Taft Hartley revisions.

Freight train fire near Danville evacuates Geneva residents
A freight train carrying chemicals from the Atomic Energy Commission derailed Sunday near Danville Kentucky, igniting fire and explosions. 28 cars left the tracks, prompting state police to evacuate 125 Geneva residents and block roads while crews from six volunteer departments fought the blaze for about nine hours. An AEC spokesman said the load included radioactive material but also chemicals such as carbon disulphide. The cars were loaded at Chattanooga and assigned to National Lead Co Cincinnati. The railroad offered no explanation for the crash.
