Wheeling Steel Corp offered wage hikes today ranging from 23 to 60 cents an hour to avert a potential CIO United Steelworkers strike. Assistant Vice President L H Brown presented the offer to Paul Rosen, director of District 23, noting an average 5.1 percent rise to top at 5.61 and bottom at 1.63. Rev. James E. Adkins of Chesapeake Assembly of God was fined 15 dollars and jailed five days after using his church loudspeaker on election day to urge a straight Republican vote. Atlantic Greyhound Drivers Ratify New Contract After Strike
The AFL Motor Coach Employees union says Atlantic Greyhound drivers approved a two year contract retroactive to March 1, ending an 84 day strike that began April 6. The agreement raises minimum pay to 11.50 with further steps to 14 next year and includes trip pay boosts, vacation up to 21 days, and full arbitration for disputes. The strike involved about 725 drivers in the Southeast and Midwest.

Powerboat kills young swimmer near Lock 13
June 91 a 12 year old Marshall County boy was struck and killed by a runaway motorboat on the Ohio River near Lock 13. Lloyd Williams of McMechen steering gear jammed the boat sent it into swimmers and struck Robert Howard in the back. He died before or soon after being pulled from the water. Deputy Floyd Yoho said the boat pilot leapt in to rescue the boy.
