In Fairmont June 23 a defense witness Gregory Koutroumanos testified he delivered about $105,000 to Wheeling race track owner from 1942 to 1946. He said the funds were his dividends and profits from Lias controlled holdings and that Ling paid his taxes. The testimony references other associates and alleged bribery claims in a broad income tax evasion case.

Slaying Probe Narrowed as Beckley Police Question Miner Suspect
Beckley police sought Rufus Young of Williamson for questioning in the slaying of Harry Winston a 32 year old Negro miner from Scab Fork whose stabbed body was found behind a church. Police Chief Anthony Scalise said Winston may have been with Young's estranged wife Monday night. Winston's body was discovered yesterday morning. Additionally 7 year old Joseph Dust of Kaylard suffered a crushed left foot when caught between a mine car and slate, and was admitted to Boaksky hospital with burns and bruises while employed by Truax Traer.
