A June 25 raid on moonshine operations in Pod Hollow near Holse Creek led to the death of Extel Bishop, 40, of Memadey, McDowell County. Deputy Tom Cook and Bal Belcher assisted. Bishop and companion Albert Whartad of Hunts Creek were reportedly arrested when a weapon discharged during a struggle.

Dr Lutw Hunt Peters, widely known as a health authority and conductor of Your Health and Mina in The Gazette, died yesterday in London while traveling to Germany. The physician held a medical degree and was a trusted source of medical guidance for thousands of Gazette readers. Before departing she had prepared weeks of future column notes.
Mrs. Millie Merko of Weston Massachusetts, titled queen of the Marko Gypsy tribe, faces charges in Kanawha County for allegedly stealing 2300 from Ingi Ricupero a South Charleston merchant. Police say she fled Charleston as a fugitive of justice and was identified after interrogation and fingerprinting.
Hercule La Fountain 48 of Sherbrooke Quebec shot himself in a Cranberry Lake lumber yard area after a reported health decline. He had worked for George Bushey Lumber Co. in Cranberry Lake and lived in Tupper Lake New York. His sister Mrs Aurore Bruton of Sherbrooke was notified. his body was taken to Barlow mortuary. Police and the Kanawha county coroner questioned his identity.

Executives from Pittsburgh look on as Wharton West Virginia wins the adult content with Keystone Melcroft and others following. Tom Greene the swift Ohio river packet defeats Betsy Ann by 23 minutes in a 21 mile race from Perrinack to Covington. The victory marks back to back titles for the Tom Greene in classic river competition amid crowd sights along the Ohio with ships and a 9000 spectator crowd. The race recalls era of Robert E Lee and Natchez as the Tom Greene earns a golden plaque from timbers of the Robert E Lee.
Winfield, 28-Ch- A charge of embezzlement against Dr. H. S. Barr, Charleston dentist and bank director, was dismissed by Judge Thomas B. Sheppard on motion of Prosecuting Attorney C. V. Knapp. Attorney General Howard B. Tee approved. grand jury had voted not to indict. A civil action for 89,000 was also dismissed. both actions were dead.
