German advisers to leave China after aiding Chiang Kai-Shek

Twenty seven German military advisers who helped Chiang Kai-Shek build a modern army are to depart China tomorrow, according to new orders from Berlin. Operator Testifies Shot Fired at Him

London Kentucky June 7 Charles E Guthrie coal operator testified in the federal trial of Harrah county coal company executives and officials on conspiracy charges under the Warner labor act He said he was fired upon from a hillside near the mine in 1931 and that a plot to call his father founder of the company was discussed A former employee recalled a United Mine Workers organizer describing a plot to kill Guthrie and his brother Clyde during similar union member drives in 1931 and 1937 He testified amid a case involving UMWA activities and labor disputes in Harlan County.

Probe of WPA Hinted by King

In Washington on June 27 a WPA leader urged relief recipients to work to keep liberals in power, prompting talk of a Senate probe. Senator King hinted the speech by Aubrey Williams, deputy WPA administrator, could justify an inquiry by a Senate committee. Two brothers from Walkey City Minnesota led a spree across Wisconsin and Minnesota robbing victims after shooting Indiana state trooper Roy Dixon. Reveal Gets 15 Years in Killing

The 24 year old defendant from Slip Hill Mood was sentenced to 15 years for second degree murder in the slaying of Clarence Walker. Rebels Destroy 2 British Ships off Spanish Coast

Valencia June 27 Insurgent airplanes destroyed two British freighters off the Spanish coast. The Arion and Farnham were hit and set ablaze as they carried food cargoes. The Arion was beached at Nazaret near Valencia after fire and a Romanian crewman was killed nearby. The raids raise total British ships attacked to five since July 18 1936 and sixteen this month.

Wage Hour Bill Signed By President

President Roosevelt signed the wage hour bill quietly, setting Oct. 24 as the operative date. The act creates a 44 hour week in its first year, raises minimums from 24 to 40 cents in seven years, and requires time and a half for overtime with sector exceptions and an appointed wage hour administrator to study conditions across interstate industries. About 200,000 workers earning under 25 cents will gain raises initially, with broader effects as rates advance.
