Assessor Sees Valuation Drop Across Kanawha County

Kanawha assessor J. H. Abbot predicts a lower county valuation this year due to wartime constraints. He cites absence of new building and autos, depreciated autos, dwindling gas well income, lower wholesale and retail inventories, and a shift to war bonds reducing taxable intangibles. The sole gain comes from rubber and butadiene in Union district, though only buildings are taxed. The county court will convene Saturday as a board of commissioners.
