Union and Lawyer Fee Plan Fixed in West Virginia
A West Virginia State Bar spokesman said a new plan allows a union to provide a list of approved lawyers for workers to choose from in cases affecting employee rights. Union leaders criticized the ethics ruling, while Miles Stanley of the West Virginia Labor Federation backed the arrangement as a way to furnish legal service. The ethics committee had earlier ruled unions as intermediaries breached client-attorney relationships, but the new advisory opinion restates canons while preserving client choice and union support.
