Freedom From Floating Debt Seen For State by Aug 1
West Virginia aims to end deficit by August 1 with possible borrowing of up to $500,000. Auditor’s chief clerk Cleveland Mt Bailey says debt totaling $2,200,000, mostly from teachers’ salaries, could be cleared as $4.4 million in income and taxes are expected by August 3. Transfers from the general fund and school fund plus payroll needs may total over $1 million for the month, with hopes that tax receipts and other revenues cover the shortfall.
