French Assembly Ups Old Age Dole
The bill moves to the Senate after initial passage with votes 263-124 and 344-123 on sections and 341-35 overall. Only the Poujadists and one right wing peasant opposed, citing potential economic effects. The measure includes a 31 200 franc yearly supplementary for those 65 plus with low income and a 285 dollar per horsepower tax on large autos. Additional tax hikes are planned to fund the Algerian war and overall military spending.
