WPA to Trim July Projects in West Virginia
Administrator J N Alderson of the West Virginia WPA said July employment quotas will drop to 22000 from 26867, forcing discontinuance of some county road and other projects. Some street and municipal works may be halted while efforts to complete started tasks continue. The cut will curb community service activities and white collar and women’s programs. If projects are stopped, funds are not lost as sponsors’ expenditures track federal spending. A 1940-41 WPA appropriation of 936.39 million awaits House action, about 410 million less than this year.
