Star Explosion Seen From Dawn Of Time By Yerkes Team

WILLIAMS BAY Wisconsin June 21 A Yerkes Observatory team at the University of Chicago witnessed a far away stellar explosion dating back billions of years. Dr Otto Struve and assistants observed a gigantic star’s disintegration captured by the 100 inch telescope. Light from the event traveled across space at nearly 186000 miles per second to reach Earth and reveal clues to the creation story. The nova, second magnitude and visible to the naked eye, lies near Delta Cenphel, though its iron rich blaze mystified researchers who note iron and other metals are common in new stars. The sight offers a rare chance to study such an explosion while it is ongoing.
