Local Lions Hear Of City playgrounds and plans
Hee BuenS director of recreation spoke at the Lions Club luncheon at the Datel hotel about Charles city playgrounds. Burns said one site serves nearly 500 children daily, funded by a one cent tax levy from the Independent district school board. Ground work began with civic clubs and is now city-supported with tax funds. A and B class grounds differ in supervision and age groups, with hours from morning to evening. About 12900 residents support the program, which stresses play as a life attitude and city expansion. Music by Walter Ozanich and a John Newton directed quartet accompanied the event. New Lions members began training under Ben Moore, a founder.
