Chamber Fears Price Increases
The State Chamber of Commerce warned that if coal price rises continue, wage boosts will fail to help miners. It cited WWI cost spikes and estimated added production costs of 40 million dollars annually, with wage increases raising costs by about 25 to 33 cents per ton across West Virginia. Southern operators fear market losses as industrial activity slows.
