Board Faces Criticism Over Bluefield State College
Howard W. McKinney of West Virginia’s Human Rights Commission told the Charleston Business and Professional Men’s Club that the State Board of Education has shown indecision and discrimination toward Bluefield State College and its president Dr. L. B. Allen. He accused the board of promoting confusion and avoiding clear actions on complaints about discrimination, salary issues, and student teaching practices, urging a frank discussion and firm action on integration and expansion of technical education. He asserted the Department of Education similarly evades the issue and warned of a “gentlemen’s agreement” that hides discrimination in county practices.
