In West Union six families moved back as relief workers and Red Cross aid reunite them after a sudden flood washed out homes. One family Harrison Smith remains displaced and arrangements are made to shelter them. Dozens of homes along Doe Run nourished gardens washed away as heavy rain spanned three central West Virginia counties. Roads reopened today but crews continue clearing dirt from U S 50 near Piesse farm.
Unrest grows as hungry clients and unpaid workers protest in Cleveland. About 200 relief clients shout for food while 88 union relief members march to city hall during lunch hour. Welfare Director Ramsey warns seven district relief offices may close next week without state relief funds.
A 60-year-old monument salesman from Bluefield reappeared Friday night after claiming two men assaulted him as he drove home from Shady Springs. He said his car was used to travel to Rock Hill South Carolina where he regained consciousness in a doctor’s office. He described being unconscious for two days.
Mayor Frank Hague of Jersey City faced a contempt charge in U S district court after a noontime press conference attack on CIO and A C L U counsel Morris L Ernst. Judge William Clark delayed ruling pending affidavits as Hague apologized, saying no offense intended.
GRAFTON June 17 An early morning automobile crash on U S Route 50 at the foot of Cheat Mountain in Preston County killed 22 year old Roberta Ruth Shaw of Baltimore and seriously injured 25 year old Robert M Hooton also of Baltimore The car left the highway and struck rocks Hooton suffered a possible fractured skull and body injuries Shaw daughter of Robert E Shaw a Baltimore and Ohio railroad employee suffered a broken neck
SAN FRANCISCO June 17 AP Injection of air into muscles to relieve chronic pain was demonstrated at the American Medical association meeting. The air enters via a hypodermic needle to lubricate fascia between muscle groups. Dangers are noted for unsupervised use and earlier releases were cancelled. the exhibit by Dr Charles Murray Gratz of Columbia University described muscle joints and fascia bands with high tensile strength.
Republican leaders denounce adjournment as a severe economic crisis and charge administration efforts to “charge the American form of government.” Senate Leader McNary and Rep. Snell say the first duty is to stay in session and pass measures to ease business paralysis. They warn that New Deal policies have been ignored or ridiculed and express regret at the situation.
Falls City resident Charles Heifiemann drives a nearly new car ten years after manufacture. He bought it for $200 from William Fricke’s estate, who had purchased the car in 1928 for $1385 and logged only 306 miles. Veteran New York Democrat Royald Copeland, nearing 70 and a three term senator, died in his hotel in Washington at 7:45 p.m. from complications after exhaustion. He had collapsed in the Senate the previous day and had spent a week presiding over conference committee meetings while pushing civil aviation control, maritime, food and drug acts, and flood control measures through the chamber.
The Progressive Mine Workers of America campaign against C I O enters Cabin Creek district Kanawha county this afternoon and seeks statewide radio support tomorrow night. President Joe Ozani will address Eskdale mass meeting at 4 p m and speak over radio at 8 p m Sunday. The event, backed by West Virginia Federation of Labor and the Progressive Mine Workers, invites state and county publics. armed only with citizen rights, the organizer says the meeting will not be broken.

Agencies plan rapid relief and a broadened scope for TVA, WPA, RFC, and other programs while a wage hour administrator is sought.
NAHANT Mass June 17 The Roosevelt clan gathered on Massachusetts north shore as congress adjourned early to allow 22 year old John Roosevelt to marry Anne Lindsay Clark tomorrow. About 15 ushers, 30 wedding party members, and 500 guests for the ceremony plus another 500 for the reception arrive from land sea and air. A final rehearsal was held at the union church with a stand in for the bride and elaborate preparations for the romance of the last Roosevelt child. President Roosevelt arrived by special train to the Potomac where the couple and party will dine aboard the yacht amid photographers and crowds.
Franklin Pierce McCall, 21, laborer from Miami, confessed to kidnapping Jimmy Cash Jr. of Princeton for a $10,000 ransom. He was moved to Raiford State Prison to await execution in the electric chair after a sentenced hearing. Prison officials described him as stunned yet calm during the 15 minute booking, with Deputy sheriffs transporting him from Dade County.
Berlin reports a decree barring insured Jewish patients from Jewish medical institutions as part of a broad anti Semitic drive. Gestapo arrests and detentions loom as fear grips Berlin and other cities. Consulates see frantic Jews seeking visas, though funds and travel hurdles hinder escape.
Lewisburg June 17 AP The army flew over the mountains to salute Greenbrier county in its 140th year. The Langley Field second wing led by Lieut Col Francis M Brady arrived as the four day celebration began. 16 pursuit planes and four bombers performed in one of the valley states biggest air shows. Rain postponed the coronation of Minnie Frazier Preston as Queen of Greenbrier and postponed Greenbrier on Parade. The coronation ball proceeded at White Sulphur Springs with Gov Hell and Mrs Hell in attendance.
Clayton H. Martin Jr. seven, of 207 Glen Street, died about 6 p.m. after a late afternoon accident. He is Kanawha county's 27th traffic victim this year. Thornton Jarrett, 24, of 825 Indiana Avenue, was released on bond on a mare slaughter charge. He said he saw the boy and a playmate dart in front of his southbound car on Pennsylvania Avenue and could not stop. The body was taken to Bartlett Mortuary. funeral plans are not complete. The boy’s parents and a younger brother, James Allen, survive.
