Browning Guilty Of Contempt In Court Fight
In Madison Boone County Circuit Court jurors found 68 year old Tweet Browning guilty of contempt for threatening the life of Circuit Judge Donald Jarrell. Special Judge Charles W. Ferguson III presided. The two month jail term and 50 dollar fine followed a prior year sentence for disturbance in the circuit clerk's office after a fistfight with lawyer Jerry Cook. An appeal led to a writ of habeas corpus returnable in September. Browning sought a writ of prohibition against the second contempt trial but it was denied.

Satellite System Okayed by FCC
The Federal Communications Commission on Friday approved a policy of multiple entry for firms to provide communications to the American public. The four to three vote rejected a March proposal for limited entry, saying it would be unwise to select or prescribe one system. Independent contractors and carriers would be allowed to compete, with applicants required to show financial and technical fitness and to serve the public interest.
