Aid Bill Raised 100 Million in Senate Aid Bill Boosts Foreign Aid to 4.5 Billion

Washington June 15 The Senate Foreign Relations Committee boosted the administration's foreign aid bill to 4.5025 billion dollars adding 16 million for Asian economic development and restoring half of a 200 million presidential fund. The measure carried 702.8 million more than House limits as committee actions trimmed 12.4 million in technical sections. The decision to restore the 100 million for the Asian fund is a temporary victory for President Eisenhower. The big floor fight looms next week with possible further cuts to foreign aid. Senate figures diverge between House and Senate totals with Ke fauver supporting the 600 million increase and Bridges signaling doubt about raising further. The debate centers on foreign military aid and the president's recommendations.
