Eastern Gas Opens Playgrounds for Workers Tots
The Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates opens six playgrounds for workers' children in Powellton Elk Ridge and Kimberly. Each community hosts one white and one colored facility equipped with swings merry-go-round slides see-saws and courts. Supervisors oversee daily 10 am to 5 pm open hours Monday through Saturday. Softball leagues for 12 to 18 year olds also began playing Saturday at Stallfield Powellton.

Corn Adulteration Case Goes Before U S Judge
The government filed suit in district court seeking condemnation of 228 cases of corn alleged adulterated. The corn shipped by Bridgewater Canning Co. of Bridgewater Virginia to a Beckley distributor in Maren bears the label Stephalee Brand Whole Grain Golden Sweet Corn. Each case is said to hold 24 cans.
