Lead Sealed Dispatch Case Arrives With British Envoy
A king's messenger, John Robinson, boarded the Atlantic Clipper from Europe carrying a lead sealed dispatch case for the British embassy in Washington. The case, perforated with holes and designed to sink if dropped, contained orders from Prime Minister Churchill. Also noted is a British embassy departure from London to Rome via Glasgow and Lisbon, amid a protest by Sylvia Pankhurst at the Italian embassy. Local recruiting ads urge enlistment with promises of steady pay for three years.
