Contagious voting irregularities name new West Virginia Girls State governor
Beckley student council member Virginia Kemp defeated Nancy Cubbon in a second election after last night’s balloting irregularities voided results. 311 ballots were cast by 309 voters, with one senate candidate omitted. Other winners include Marjorie Redding treasurer and Mary Grimmett secretary of state. The campaign and inauguration proceeded amid questions about the miscount. The Rhododendron Girls State event, attended by about 300, marks its 10th anniversary with Lucian J. Ciletti as banquet speaker.
