Rail service halt prompts hearing on regional routes
A formal hearing was ordered after residents protested proposed changes to passenger service between Hinton and Huntington and a return trip consolidation with another train. No formal protest was entered. Transit official R Snell said the adjustments would save the railroad about 185000 annually. The commission quickly acted on a Buffalo Putnam County rate increase and allowed a 44000 revenue bond for a new filtration plant as wells dry. A National Guard portable filter unit is treating creek water for the emergency.

Attempt to End Strike at Power Plant Slated
PT PLEASANT June 3 M Fancher of Charleston representative of the AFL Laborers union said that an effort will be made at a meeting early Monday to get striking workers back on the job at the 66 million Philip Sporn power plant. Two hundred laborers who quit their jobs Wednesday left some 600 others idle yesterday and construction is at a standstill. Dissatisfaction over failure to complete negotiations for a new contract was given as the reason for the stoppage. The Monday meeting will be held for the plant before the opening whistle.
