West Washington pool room operator Howard Beard age 26 of Champions Billiards at 11647 Washington St W was charged with possessing lottery tickets. Det George Nunley said Beard was released on a 500 dollar bond after officers recovered several dozen tip books. Beard’s hearing is set for police court Thursday.

Jail duo jailed after rooming-house forgery scam
Two rooming-house bilkers Calvin Mc Clure and Elmo Vandall admitted forging about eight checks and stealing a $100 wrist watch. Jail matron Phyllis Crawford alerted police after spotting suspicious activity at 608 Donnally Street where the suspects lived. They face forgery and grand larceny charges with hearings set in Municipal Court.

Detective Bureau identified Wayne Flesner 28 of 1305 Bigley Ave as the man charged with forgery. He allegedly cashed an 18.99 check at the Kanawha Hotel forged in Harrisville on Parkersburg Supply Co. account, signed A. B. Kirk and endorsed by Flesner. He was arrested hiding in a restroom at the Holley Hotel. Earlier he was acquitted of a grand larceny charge in Intermedia Court.

County Uses Up 10 000 Dog Vaccination Tags
County deputy clerk John L. Frail announced that the county has run out of rabies vaccination tags for dogs. Ten thousand tags were received but are gone, with more expected from the manufacturer before week’s end. Dog owners lacking tags should wait about ten days and then obtain them from the vaccinating veterinarian. Certificates of vaccination in triplicate are also scarce, with a State Agriculture Department supply anticipated. A new countywide vaccination rush followed a recently enacted State law requiring annual rabies vaccination. Sheriff Al J. Carey arranged clinics across the county to meet the emergency, with last week’s and this week’s dates already announced.

Six Down, Six to Go In Jail Escape
Williamson June 7 It was six down and six to go today in the recapture of prisoners who used a spoon and a pair of scissors to escape from the Mingo County jail last Wednesday. Fred Farley White 25 of Delbarton yesterday became the sixth fugitive to be taken into custody. One Wayne and three Mingo deputies arrested him at the home of his father McKinley White on 110 Mile Creek Lincoln County. Sheriff Elmer Ferrell said the officers had to wade in mud to make the arrest. White was awaiting transfer to West Virginia Penitentiary at Moundsville on a breaking and entering conviction when he escaped.
