Over a week period the city investigates Sparks Auto Wrecking Co. for encroachment on city right of way and possible injunction violation. Councilman Frankie Williams and City Attorney H W Bowers Jr report inspections show the area cleared of junk, with police involvement.
Council tabled Williams suggestion to clear packed earth and junk from the street right of way and sell it to Spanish. A resolution for a Jefferson Road sidewalk was moved after protests by property owners. SRC recommended striping and crosswalks, parking ban on MacCorkle Ave north side to ease two lane traffic, and two lane guidance. Bids for Spring St and other streets postponed for more bids. Residents urged restrictions on Kana wha River dumping and speed limits, while efforts to prepare Highland Terrace playground and repair Spring Hill school area proceed.
Prague radio reported that Dr. Josef Kysely Slovak health commissioner and former Bratislava mayor has been appointed deputy prime minister of Communist Czechoslovakia. The announcement came from London June 7 a formal government reshuffle is indicated by the report.
