American educator rebuffs Petain honors over Vichy ties
Samuel Harden Church, famed for offering 1.9 million to capture Hitler, says he renounces his French Legion of Honor decoration given to Marshal Petain. He mailed the red blue gold cross to Petain and charged the Vichy leader with collaboration with Hitler. Church cites anger at France joining the Germanic order and declines to keep the decoration.
