Urges Vets to Act Promptly on Bonus Claims
The Charleston Red Cross urges World War I veterans and dependents to file compensation or bonus applications promptly as time limits near expiration. Executive secretary Mrs. Bertha Kilvaneth Yates says claims must be filed within five years after discharge or onset of disability, with extensions possible for good cause including minors or continued incapacity. The Red Cross can assist at local posts and ensure timely submission to the veterans bureau regional office in Charleston. New provisions signed May 29 extend filing to January 1930, allow multiple beneficiaries, and permit estate payments if a beneficiary is unclear.
