John A. West Jr of Chicago, a recent MIT graduate, sent 81 nautical themed notes in bottles to ad agencies nationwide. A Philadelphia agency hired him after responses rolled in. he will join the firm in a few weeks. The notices joked about stranded sailors seeking passage and included Wests background in arts sciences business and advertising.
