In Cleveland Ohio on June 6 reports say the Lowden boom for the vice presidency gathered speed while factional tensions rose. Farm relief may jar term s end
Washington June 6 Predictions of a painful adjournment of Congress were offset by developments in the Senate. Farm relief appears set aside but delegates from the wheat belt in both houses hope action before adjournment. The House passed Hoch resolution declaring agriculture the leading industry and urging quicker reduction of farm-product rates. A Senate move to create a special committee to watch expenditures in the coming campaign stirred party opposition enough to threaten action on bridge bills. The Senate was to pass the Navy tonnage inquiry report and other items in a light session. A permanent national reforestation policy bill gained quick Senate approval, proposing annual funding and state cooperation. The conference eliminated the pension amendment for Spanish American War veterans and local gifts were announced in Huntington. Minor note on a New York nomination reversal for Judson Knox.
