Adenauer Profiles Khrushchev as Arrogant and Brutal

Bonn reports Chancellor Konrad Adenauer denounced Nikita Khrushchev as brutal and arrogant for saying the Soviet Union will not accept German unification now. Adenauer, in Luxembourg after talks with French Premier Mollet, said he would push the issue in Moscow via West German Ambassador Wilhelm Haas and discuss it with President Eisenhower during an eight day U.S. trip. He cited Khrushchev’s stance as both brutal and legally impossible and warned that seventeen million Germans behind the Iron Curtain prefer a neutral united Germany to the present division.
