Ford Rejects Arbitration in Auto Strike Standoff
Ford Motor Co rejected the CIO Auto Workers Union call for arbitration over a guaranteed wage plan. John S. Bugas said union demands to increase unemployment pay jeopardize a settlement before a possible midnight Sunday strike. Second Trial June 15 In Widen Strike Death
Roscoe Ball, called "the unfortunate victim of a situation he did not create," will go on trial June 15 for the murder of non-striking worker Charles Frame, 29, during a 1953 gunfire incident at Elk River area. Ball had earlier been convicted in 1950 of killing a non-striking man. his 1953 murder conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court, which found improper jury selection from Braxton County.

Four Die In Head On Crash Near Institute
A fiery head on collision on State Rt. 25 near Institute killed four men and a woman and injured four others. The dead include George Raynes 28 of Nitro and Jessica Wyant 20 of Nitro. Injured range from critical to fair with among them Roy Matheny 26 in critical condition and Mavis Beard 19 in stable condition. The crash occurred while four men were en route to stock car races and two couples were on a double date.

Fayette Man Killed by Wire in Fayette County
James E. Eades 23, a Korean veteran just back from the Army, was electrocuted in Fayette County when he loosened a bumper entanglement with a guy wire. The contact with a hot high tension line killed him and his eight month old cocker spaniel Inky Christmas. The incident occurred around 445 p m as he parked near his parents home after returning from a movie errand. The hot wire voltage is listed as 12000 or 44000 volts. Authorities described the sequence of bumper entanglement and slack wire touching the hot line.
