Thirteen year old Leonard T. Ramey of Blakeley was crushed to death when a slate fall, about 1500 pounds, buried him near the abandoned Blue Creek Coal and Land Co mine. Matt Lanham and his son Howard found the body near the mine entrance and notified authorities. Surviving are the parents Mr and Mrs H F Ramey and six sisters.
New York June 1 The indictment of six men by District Attorney Thomas E Dewey accuses them of raiding seven investment trusts with assets exceeding 16 million dollars. Four defendants were arrested including a Boston financier and a former New York securities dealer. others were fugitives in Massachusetts and Washington DC.
Washington June 1 The institute representing the textile industry backs a compromise on wage controls. It seeks a 30 cent per hour minimum wage for interstate industry, with abandonment of a Senate bill, a board to grant exemptions, and removal of the proposed 44 cent gradual increase. The accord is said to have support from Northern and Southern leaders.
