Johnson boosts U S Savings Bonds rates in Austin action
President Johnson raised interest rates on E and H bonds and Freedom Shares to 4.28 and 5.0 percent respectively to spur sales. The move, the day’s major item, comes as bond sales lag behind last year. Johnson signed minor bills, military assignments, promotions, and named a Teacher Corps advisory committee. He plans to vote in the Democratic primary runoff for governor in Johnson City.
