In Cairo and Port Said violent clashes leave five killed and about 120 injured. Police and troops quell mobs marching through the capital and nearby ports, as street fighting and arson disrupt daily life and government authorities blame political turmoil for the disorder.
The weather bureau forecast showers today breaking the heat wave that baked states from Ohio to the Middle Atlantic. Temperatures near century highs were recorded in New York and Baltimore, with multiple prostrations and several deaths noted. Fire danger persisted in West Virginia as rainfall loomed.
